Electroforming work becomes in-tents
Last week saw the installation of a new cleanroom tent for the Electroforming project in Boulby Underground Laboratory’s LEC.
The new tent, provided and installed by Monmouth Scientific, will operate as an ISO 6 cleanroom. Providing nearly double the useable floorspace, the new cleanroom will enable electroforming work at the lab to grow, with plans for more complicated electroplating later this year.
The electroforming project at Boulby Underground Laboratory is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and the University of Hamburg. The project aims to demonstrate and refine electroplating and electroforming techniques for the fabrication of ultra-pure copper – a critical material for low-mass dark matter detectors developed by the NEWS-G collaboration.
